Lawrence sat alone as usual reading. He knew about the mission but his powers weren't exactly a match for what they needed there. He knew he had to study the types of plants needed for what. Poisons, natural remedies and teas, and just overall usages for his gift. Every since Cyn left he went back to his old self, as it seemed everyone who he cared enough about left him in the end. First There was Alex who vanished without a trace, then Cyn who did the same thing. It seemed every time he opened himself up to anyone and got close they left him. Ran away. So he decided he'd close himself off again as it seemed the only way he could keep from getting hurt. He could hear someone walking by but he didn't look up and he continued to just look at his book and take notes.

Maera was making her way from Chess club. It was the one day a week in which she was not busy with diving practice or toning exercise. She kept her body in shape for different reasons. Chess was something which kept her mind sharp and occupied. She knew that she was too inexperienced to join in. It also didn't help that she was in high school.
She glanced up from the message that she was writing when she noticed a familiar face. A smile crossed her face as she noticed it was one of the cuties from the mansion. She chuckled to herself as he was nice to almost everyone. He gave her a few tips as she learned to use her powers. She paused for a moment as she debated for a moment as he looked busy.
She took in a deep breath as she tucked her phone away. This might be a good chance to get to know him better. After all, it would be another way to distract herself from the dangerous situation that some of the others were in. She slid into the seat across from him.
"So, you seem to be knee deep into the studying plants. Did you learn anything new?"

Lawrence was surprised when the young girl, Meara he thought her name was if he remembered correctly, sat across from him. She went to the high school and had gotten there recently from what he could recall. He remembered as her she was one of very few around with red hair and even with his distance he did try to at least learn everyone's name. He might not want to get close to people but that didn't mean he didn't want to at least be a team player here. In fact he remembered giving her a few pointers when she first came and she learned quickly. She was obviously at the very least intelligent and a quick learner, which also was something that he never forgot about a person. It was odd to him that she wanted to know more about plants but looked over to her and said " a bit actually. Double majoring in botany and holistic medicine after all. Like Jatamansi for example. It's rare and us found in the Himalayas." A small bustle of pink flowers appeared in his hand "It can be used as an anti-depressant,anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory among other things. Also its oil is used in aroma therapy." He chuckled knowing he was probably boring her. " im sorry to bore you. I may not be able to do much in a battle but perhaps I can still save a few lives." He said with a nod

Maera glanced down at her hands when he talked about double majoring, almost as if she had interrupted his studying. She had not thought about college yet. She figured she would be able to get some sort of scholarship to a school around here. There was still plenty that she had to learn about with her powers. She looked up with a smile on her face. Her eyes widen slightly as the flower was produced in his hand. A delicate finger ran over the small pedals.
She shook her head as she took her hand away from his. "It can be fun to learn about new things. Besides, should I strain a joint in diving, it will be nice to have a natural way of reducing the swelling." She lifted the liquid from the empty table nearby as it slithered across the floor and surrounded the flower. "Not everyone can be a fighter. Just like a plants need water to survive, the injured need a healer to get back on their feet."
She gave a shrug as she allowed the liquid to flow back to its original container. She sighed as she flexed her fingers slightly. "Are you a little bummed not to go on the big mission? I mean I understand why I was not called upon with being green still behind the ears. I think you would have been an excellent choice."

Lawrence chuckled and smirked as she put her hand along the flower and smiled even broader when she put it in water. He had no idea if she knew but the flower wouldn't have lasted much longer without water. The limitation of his powers. Very smart woman. He blinked but shook off any thoughts as she took her hand away from his. he said the smirk still on this face as she also spoke of sprains "I believe all medicine was originally all based on nature. And at least it doesn't have the list of side effects modern medicines do my goodness" He said with a laugh. In truth he had to admit now he was glad for the company. Lawrence shook his head at her question about the mission "No I'm not. I'd actually be a liability as I have very little fighting skills. I know some offensive uses for my gift as I can control vines and throw thorns and such but none of them are exactly...stealthy." He shrugged his shoulders "Which from I know the mission is just that. A stealth mission" He chuckled again "I'm sure they will be alright though. Storm is running the mission and she's one of the best teachers we have. And we have at least one Excalibur member from across the way helping them. If this mission isn't a success I'll be rather surprised."

Maera felt her lips curl up as she noticed his smile. It felt as if they made a connection, just a spark, small and unnoticeable to the naked mind. It may have been a moment which she had not felt with another. It was probably the main reason why she pulled the water away quickly. There had been plenty of talk around the mansion about his luck with dating which is why she was going to not let things go to her head. Others had talked about how Cyn had ghosted him. It was a shame as Lawrence was nice.
"Side effects that will lead to death and everything gives you cancer these days. I shall come to you for all my medicine needs first." She gave him a tiny wink as she smile widen.
She nodded her head as he talked about the mission. It was nice to have someone else who seemed to understand how missions can play out. So, it was a party that was built for stealth. There were so many rumors flying around as to what they could possibly doing. She didn't pay too much mind to them. Things such as that usually led to nothing but trouble.
She nodded her head, "Well you know more than me. All the students like to talk about things like that. I don't pay any mind until Professor X tells us. Knowing Storm, she will make sure everyone gets back. And Wolverine too." She paused before she moved on with the conversation, "What did you think of our visitors from across the pond? I haven't had as much time to talk with the others. I kinda like Serina. She is sweet."

He chucked when she winked about side effects and death. "And I will do what I can to help you milady" he made a bow with an answering smirk to his face. He had to admit he hadn't felt as at ease talking to anyone in quite some time. SO he decided to not think more on it for the moment and just enjoy it. And as far as the mission went he knew exactly what was going on. Someone would tell her in time...but right now those that were potentially in the mission and in the mission were the only ones that knew they were going to get the sentinel plans to save the future."I don't know much about them, except Serina and Bran. Serina was here for a long time. One of the kindest women I've known, and Bran, her fiancé, is a great guy. They helped me find my long lost sister. I mean...she is with the brotherhood but she's still a good kid. I decided as long as she's safe there I'd rather leave her there and not force her to move and hate me forever for trying to control her life. No matter what else...I'm her brother. Not her father. And with only two years difference I don't feel I have the right to control her."
He realized he was going off on a tangent and then said " Ah yes Serina. I It's her story to tell but she is very down to earth for one of royal blood. " He thought a moment "You do know she is a duchess right? When it was first revealed here it was a surprise to all of us." He said with a shrug.
" I know it seems like a lot of secrets but you came here at a...interesting time. There IS something big happening. I hope you do feel welcome though and I do promise. As far as what the mission was, getting to know people...once everything calms down I'm sure you will be pulled into the loop."

Maera felt her cheeks warm when he called her Milady. It was old fashion though she really liked it. It was different from the hormone filled boys at her school. Plus, she really had not thought about beating. Her focus was on her studies and diving, the level of control she has with he powers was something which came almost naturally. It probably came from her love of being in the water. She focused on the here and now. It was not what could be from a team member.
She leaned slightly closer as he started to talk about the others. Her eyes grew wide as he mentioned Serina was a duchess. It felt like a bomb went off he mentioned he had a sister with the other side. There was a lot that he unpacked. She almost felt like there was a lot on his mind. She felt a hand reach out to him with a soft smile and concern reflecting in her eyes.
“I’m happy you were able to find your sister. I know family is important. Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if my mother kept me instead of living as an orphan. Who is your sister? Have you talked to her a all?”
She took in a deep breath as she changed topics as well. “I feel like there is a lot that I don’t know. It probably doesn’t help that I am super into being on the diving team. Serina is someone I would never peg as a royal. She’s fabulous and someone I could look up to. I wish that I was around went she was living here. I might have to ask about her background as it would be an interesting story.” She took in a big breath before she went on. “I just figured that being young and fairly new, I would be kept out of a lot of things. I’m okay with that as I have my fair share that most don’t know. The professor will let me know when the time is right. Honestly, it’d nice to be in a place we’re I don’t have to hide part of myself because of fear. I can use my powers almost freely.”

"These things do take time. I didn't know a lot when I got here either. None of us did when we first got here. So you are not alone. Not by any stretch of the imagination" He smiled kindly with a nod to her
He then closed his eyes and sighed heavily when thinking about how to answer about his sister. He didn't want to say too much about his past. She didn't need to be burdened with all his memories of coming home to his house aflame after going to his friends house. How the people who did it were looking for him, and everyone else was just collateral. And yet he was the one who he believed survived. the only one. So he would just skim the surface "Her name is Gabriella. She has similar powers to mine in the other direction. She takes plant life and uses its energy for buffs, healing, and to attack with it. She's a great kid, and like all the brotherhood she's not evil, but she's angry at the non mutants. In her view even the rare ones that would accept us don't do enough to help defend us against those who would harm us. So the way she sees it they let it happen, so they are part of the problem. I suppose I can't fully disagree with that statement. But obviously I feel there are other ways to deal with it. As far as seeing her yes I do. She is even allowed to visit here every once in a while. And I go there sometimes to. We've become close despite our not seeing eye to eye on various things." He shrugged. Gabriella saw what happened the day he came home to see his house aflame and his parent's dead, though he ran away and heard and believed it was his sister's newly orphaned best friend that was staying with them until they could find her family. "And as far as using our powers freely...I think that is what we all want here isn't it? To just be accepted and not feared for what we can do. Not have to hide who and what we are because others are uncomfortable. I have to say that is what all mutants have in common, no matter what faction. Question is...how do we get there? That is where everyone has their difference of opinion."

Maera returned his smile. It was nice to know that all newbies were treated the same. She knew that their secret was an important one to keep. Trust was something that was earned. In time when she had more control over her powers, she would have that same trust and be able to help out on missions. For now, she would be apart of the cadets that trained daily.
She reached a hand out to him as he started to talk about his sister. It must be hard as she felt for him to fight against his sister. She could not guess how she would react to something like that. She tilted her head to the side when he mentioned that Gabriella had similar powers as him. She wondered if that was true for all families? Not like she had any siblings that she knew about.
It was even more fascinating to listen as he explained the philosophy of both sides. She knew only that they wanted to dominate humans as mutants were a superior kind. It was something that she did not know the best way for all sides to come together, just the fear was a dangerous thing. A lot of the hate groups proved her point for her. She sighed as peace may never come to this world which was heart breaking.
"I'm happy to hear that you two are close even on opposite sides. I could not image what it must be like. I think it shows that we can find common ground even if we don't 100% agree with the other. It might be what would close the rift between everyone. I highly doubt it. Fear is a hard motivator to shake. My parents made comments when watching the news. It made super uncomfortable when I developed my powers. One of the best days in my life was when Professor X came to our home. Here it is nice to know that there is no judgement under this roof. Everyone understands as they learned what it is like." She paused, "I almost think that with all this technology we could find a way for humans to experience what we do. Though I doubt it will ever happen."

Lawrence nodded as he put a hand on hers quickly and surprisingly squeezed it. If nothing else he felt this was the beginning of a friendship. " It's worth it. No doubt it is difficult but fact is we never lose sight of the fact that family or not we care for one another. We'd give our lives for each other. We both also know that we are the only members of our family left so at this point...we're it. We can't let the petty issues get between us. I am only glad she agrees" He nodded when Meara talked about herself. "Are they accepting now? Any siblings yourself? I wish I could say it wasn't uncommon but I was lucky my parents embraced who I was and would have embraced Gabriella in the same way." He didn't say the obviously unsaid part about his parents being dead. Logan found him in the laboratory he was taken to shortly after running away from the fire and trying to hide from the friends of humanity.
As far as what happened he had stopped blaming himself years ago and especially with the help of Gabriella not blaming him. She never had. Who she blamed was the friends of humanity that stormed their house that day. It saddened him that vengeance against them was so important to her. To him it only fed the cycle and it would still leave her empty...but he supposed she would have to figure that out for herself in her pursuits.

Maera sighed as he squeezed her hand. She was not expecting the returned attention. She had a feeling that they might end up being close friends, at the very least. She sighed as she nodded her head. It almost made her wish for more of family than just her adopted parents. She pushed that thought to the side. She had been in some tough spots with foster families. She was happy to just be on her own for right now.
"You almost make me want a sibling. Some of the foster families were interesting, to say the least." She shook her head with his questions. "My parents don't know the reason why I am here. And I think I want to keep it that way. They may have a bit of money though they are far from the most accepting people. I just got the feeling they were hiding something from me." She shrugged her shoulders.

Lawrence nodded to her as she spoke. He did understand what she was saying. He knew that he though it shouldn't be this way he was lucky as far as parents went. They were accepting and not afraid. He might have lost them but at least he knew the best of what they could be like And it helped him learn to use his powers safely for the most part. He wished other parents would do the same. Perhaps then Xavier's wish to coexist would come true. He had to admit it was nice to have someone to talk about all of this
"I understand. I just hope one day they will accept you for who you are. And hopefully they aren't hiding anything from you. It's sad when family has to hide things from one another. And just because someone isn't blood doesn't mean they aren't family. As much as I seem to distance myself I may have one blood sister...but you will find you have a lot of siblings here...You just aren't blood related to them." He chuckled and smiled at her and gave her a gentle elbow. He had to admit she was rather pretty...but now was the time for that.

Heat rose quickly to her cheeks as he gave her a gentle elbow. She cleared her throat as she tucked stray hair behind her ear. It was attention which she was not used to. She mainly kept to herself and her studies. She smiled widely as she swirled the beaded water on the table. She felt herself relax a bit.
"Somehow, I very much doubt my parents will change their way of thinking or tell me what they are hiding. Sunshine and rainbows is what their perfect little world thrives on. It is nice to just be able to be myself. I have been used to hiding. It will be nice to have a real family of sorts."
She glanced at him as a change of subject was needed. She hated dwelling in what ifs or the past. "So, what do you do for fun?"

"What do I do for fun huh?" he laughed as he thought of the answer "Well for one I like to read. I also enjoy a good board game. Other simple things as well. I'm not that interesting of a person I'm afraid." He shrugged but grinned as she swirled the beaded water. "Nice trick." he smiled and there was an almost dead plant in the corner of the room that suddenly sprout flowers. "Now what about you? What is it you like to do?"
