History (Birthplace, Family, etc):
Nate grew up with parents who ran a nature reserve in the hills of Scotland. His parents would often take him on long hikes or in the small plane as they patrolled the land that they owned. Groups of school kids would often come through during the school year. He would often interact with them as away of socializing. His parents insisted that he be home schooled instead of being driven every day to meet the bus.
He enjoyed his life of just him and his parents. When he was old enough, he helped nurse back to health injured wildlife such as birds and small mammals. His father would start to teach him how to pilot the plane on his 16th birthday. He practiced under the careful eye of his father, easily completing the required hours and then some. The day that he turned 17, he got his pilot’s, passing with flying colors.
Through his excitement with the celebration that night came a disaster. He took a couple of his school buddies up in the plane. He felt strange and lightheaded, barely noticing the dip in altitude. He adjusted in relation as his friends mention they might want to land. Yelling about his body changing caused the plane to go down in the confusion. Nate barely remembers what happened in those moments.
When Nate came to, there was a funnel of smoke raising a few meters away from him. The small plane was smashed to bits. He limped over to the wreckage, seeing a body lying face down in the dirt. He rushed over it only to find that his friend was dead. The other two passengers were nowhere in sight.
Shock took over as he registered the gravity of the situation. He could not bare to face his parents or anybody else after what happened. How could he explain that he had grown feathers or why he was the only one alive. He quickly searched the wreckage to see if any supplies had made it through. There as a metal box with a few things. He grabbed what he could carry as it took off into the woods.
He started to notice that he could see extremely well with just the light of the stars to guide him. Every rustle of leaves or branches caused him to nearly jump out of his skin. He saw that his body was morphing as scaly skin appeared on his legs, his toes and nails lengthening, and feathers growing everywhere. He screamed as he had no idea what had happened. He ran as fast as he could, not realizing that he had started to fly. He did not know how long or far he had traveled that night or when he had fallen asleep.
He woke up the next morning to find that he was back to normal. He jumped when a rabbit hopped out of the brushes several meters from him. He knew something was happening, just not sure what. He never really paid attention to the news at home as the reception was not always the best so he had no idea that he was a mutant. Hunger and thirst drove him away from where he had landed.
He could not say how long he had wandered the woods as he survived off the land as best as he could. He was picked up as a hitchhiker. The nice family took him in. Nate found peace there as he helped out as best as he could. He found that he was still bothered by his vision and hearing.
One day, a group of young people came over. He could not pin down the exact event as they were rowdy when they entered into the house. His mutation once again showed up as he started to turn into a bird man. Everyone had yelled at him which only made it worst. He ran out of the house with shouts of freak being called after him as sirens wailed up the street. The police were able to catch him after a short chase.
He sat in his cell for what felt like an eternity before he was released. He was shocked to find a stranger waiting for him. It was then explained on the way to London that he was a mutant and an article from the newspaper caught their attention. He agreed to join the ranks of the Hellfire club where he learned to control his abilities as well as he could communicate and see through the owls. He was given the nickname of Black Pawn and becoming the look out for the club due to his gifts.
