The sky was murky as clouds waiting to burst rain as the darkness slowly rolled in. Some may say the weather would be an omen for the years to come. It was abnormally warm for January and there had barely been any snow blanketing the ground and trees. The entire landscape looked like a shadow of death and a roar of thunder rolled across the sky.
Crowds lined the walkways toward the Washington Monument as the speeches were about to begin. Supporters wore the AMERICAN flag as shirts while others wore bright red trucker hats with the MAGA logo sewn on the front with white lettering. Performers lined up their gear as they began to play for the next president of the United States.
Standing off to the side of the road we’re select members of the X-Men and a few of Excalibur. They were ordered to be there by the Professor to keep the peace. Word had been around that the Friends of Humanity May try to start trouble with the peaceful protests around town.
Fathom stood within the crowd gathering on the street while holding a sign reading Mutant Rights are Human Rights!!!. She had made a visit to Jeff and couldn’t let the opportunity to pass her by.
Stella stood on the sidelines, carefully monitoring the crowd with her arms crossed.. She wore a one piece black suit that zipped up the middle. She had no weapons as she hadn’t needed them. As some of the children attended the protest, a small crowd had begun bickering back and forth, to which Stella prompted “Remember the reason why you’re here, loves! We’re together!” She commanded.

Charis had come with Fathom, Stella and the others to be at the March. She was watching everyone the best she could and watched Stella kindly stop some children from fighting.
Charis went over to her afterward, "Your super kind Stella. I wish that I could be that way with more people. My Girlfriend Ember was wanting to come but she said she'd be busy at work. Maybe sometime you can meet her. Thanks for being awesome..."
Charis then stood close by looking around while close to Stella so she could hear from her friend.

Vance was in his X-men uniform as Psyral. As much as he was hoping for no incidents during this march, he was hoping, almost wishing FoH would start something...just to be able to beat them to the ground. They were responsible for his parents' deaths, and he would love nothing more than to make them suffer. Unfortunately, he had to play guard duty for now. It didn't help the Trump-humpers were out in force, either.
The thing that really set him off, however, was Stella's presence. She HAD to be among Excalibur's numbers of all things. He heard the X-men and Excalibur had worked together before, so this meant that it wouldn't be the last he heard from Stella now. He was still pissed for what she did to him, almost as much as he was with FoH. As he kept scanning the crowd, his eyes kept shifting back to Stella...and that damn sexy suit she was wearing...why did she have to be so damn hot? It made him so hot and bothered...it almost made him forget that she was a lyin', cheatin', quittin' piece of trash.
It's hard being a horny love-seeking guy sometimes...

Stella smiled warmly to Charis, extending her hand out to put a piece of her hair behind the girl’s ear “Oh Charis, your too nice for your own good...” she smirked, knowing that herself and Ember had had a fling back in the day. She had seen her ex around town and had pondered talking to her to maybe reminisce, but that fire had been extinguished as soon as she realized that Charis was now her partner. She wouldn’t mess with that. Ember deserved happiness, and Stella knew she wasn’t the right path.
“Be careful... I’ve seen some odd ones walking about...” she added before looking forward.
She felt his eyes on her, searing into her back as if she was a piece of prime meat. The man had called her every name in her book, and even some new ones. Why had Xavier picked him to help guard was a total surprise to her. After he wrecked her mini, she wanted him arrested. Seeing him in the corner of her eyes, she set out a sigh... she had nothing to say anymore. He wouldn’t believe her anyway. She was many things, but a liar wasn’t one of them. The next time she met with the man she had told him. Nothing was good enough for perfect Vance Bryce. Bloody hell.
He did look handsome standing there, she’d give him that...

Ryuusei was sitting at a table in some dive bar in downtown DC; his surroundings were quite shitty but he heard they had great wings, and from the graveyard on his plate, they did NOT disappoint!
As he took a bite into a wing, his green eyes looked up at the TV; a news channel was covering the March. From what he could tell, it was a pretty Left-leaning outlet; they spent a lot of studio time blasting the Newly-elected President. Ryuusei didn't have a strong opinion either way about the man; it was kind of amusing that this orange-faced dude with an ugly as shit hairpiece got elected, and listening to him talk he was a total buffoon. However, as he was driving back-and-forth across the country, he'd met quite a few of the guy's supporters in smaller towns; there were decent folks, there were absolute dicks. Some of the nice ones expressed a dislike of Mutants while some of the dickheads didn't.
Ryuusei wasn't a Mutant...or even from this planet, so none of that really bothered him; they were just words and he didn't see any of it acted upon. If shit DID happen, and it wasn't a fair fight; regardless of what side was being attacked, then he'd step in. After all, they were just 'people' to him.
He did like the idea that Americans could vote for their Leaders, something his country could learn from, they originally had a Monarchy, which the head of a world-spanning Corporation got close to; but when said company made a bid for World Domination and got taken down, Seinegald's economy went down the toilet! The Royals fled and the country fell into anarchy...
The first-ever memory he could recall was being trampled on by a looter running down a side street; but for the life of him, he couldn't recall WHAT the guy had. With all the people running about, the brawling and numerous fires around town that the constant rain couldn't put out, it could've just been the front wheel of a wheelbarrow!
What was on-screen now shifted from the Studio to the March itself; an ariel view shoed the throngs of people were in front of the Washington Monument. It switched to a camera on the ground; in both cases the Reporter didn't say much, mainly showing all of those present. The camera showed members of the X-Men and Excalibur, Ryuusei rose the hand holding his bottle!
"Yo, Joe! More wings dude!"
The screen cut to members of the Brotherhood of Mutants, the middle finger around the bottle extended...

Charis smiled back to Stella and hugged her then nodded at her last comment. Charis started looking around for anything out of the ordinary. "Do you think there will be a lot of them here? Like, I'm ready to disperse them from the others but sometime we will all be the same... you know Humans and Mutants? I mean Ember and I get looks sometimes when we're out and about..."
Charis stopped and looked down for a moment then back up saying, "I'm sorry Stella...this is not just about me and Ember but everyone, everywhere."

Rouge stood with the rest of the members of the X-men for the march. This protest was needed and needed badly. She didn't say much but she held up her sign with the rest of the members in support at the washington monument.

Lawrence stood at the march alongside his friends. THis was a worldwide event now and all he ever wanted was for everyone to be equal. He didn't want groups like friends of humanity to be around and threaten other people's families. the hatred needed to end.

The Brotherhood of Mutants. The reverse-racists of mutant-kind. Where the FoH was all mutant-haters, the Brotherhood hated humans. Vance never really saw the logic of this, nor did he care to. All it was doing was stoking the flames of another war, and wars like that just meant more destruction...possibly on a global scale. If Vance could prevent that, he would with everything he had. The last thing he wanted to see what an apocalypse just over how you were born. I bet it never even crossed their minds that mutants started as humans...
Vance kept his eye on the Brotherhood as much as the FoH.

Ororo found herself personally invited to sit behind the exiting president. Her white hair was pinned up behind her head as her thoughts where with her group. While she taught the young students, she also lobbied in front of Congress for Rights of Mutants. She showed the voice of reason which award her a medal of honor. Her eyes scanned the crowd below as she made small talk around her. She felt the nervousness in the air as some did not agree with her presence. She often stated that it was their loss to judge before getting to know her. At times like these, she missed the African village who revered her like a goddess as she helped the crops grow. It was clear that the Goddess guided Xavier to her to help bring a peace to her kind and guide a new generation of mutants. ~*~*~
Maera took in a deep breath as she held her sign aloft. Something told her in her gut that her adopted parents had voted for the man getting sworn in today. She would be able to start voting next year which meant she took an interest in learning about the candidates. She didn't like what he was saying or had to offer. She even donated what little money she had to some woman's group in his name. It gave a nice twist to things.
She fanned out a little from Fathom as she was in the basic training uniform. Her voice echoed as she chanted along. She wanted her parents to know who she really was and where. She had nothing to loose from them other than the monthly money she got. Hard work was something she was not afraid of. She shouted into the news camera as it rolled by. She stepped into a line that started to march, as she brushed past Psyral. ~*~*~
Phoenix floated above the streets of the march. While she didn't actively engage in the crowds of people, she watched for threats. Her mind touched those around her, searching for active threats. Her lips turned downward as the Brotherhood joined in with the rest. She let the wind toss the bright red hair around her hair as her calling card.
It wasn't too long ago in which Jean Gray had died and been saved by a cosmic force that none had seen before. While the older members of X-Men and Excalibur were able to fight back against it, deep within the force she heard their call as she woke up to all the heartless acts it was doing against others. In a moment of pure clarity, she and the Phoenix force were transported to a separate plane.
When she awoke in the medical bay of the mansion. The professor stood over her along with Scott. There were many questions. She could not state the exact details of the conversation, the Phoenix and herself came to some sort of agreement. For now, she was in control as it was locked away, deep inside of her. From the looks on their faces, she knew it was not the answer they were looking for.
She kept the name Phoenix to show that the name was a force for good instead of the destruction it caused before. What she wouldn't tell the others was the fear if she ever lost the careful control or the memories of the lost conversation. She had a feeling the living force held something back in which it didn't want her to know. It would be something that she may never know.
She reached out to the members of their teams as she linked all of their minds together, "Status report."

Stella looked onward to the children and adults marching. There were odd faces and those familiar as well. She recognized those of the Brotherhood, as Andrew and Aaron had hung around them. As long as they didn’t start anything, they’d be fine.
Matthew England had newly arrived with a sign. Already in a sour mood, he puffed a cigarette as he sifted through the crowd. He wanted to be in on the assassination mission, but rookies were a no-go. Walking passed the X-Geeks, he winked to Stella “Sup, sexy.” He was also a little drunk from a fight with Skye. Today was not his day
Then walking passed Vance, he thrusted his chest forward “Macho man...” he mimicked as he joined those not invited to the mission.
Fathom rolled her eyes to the Matt. The kid was bad news and reeked of vodka. He needed to get the hell out of here before someone got hurt. Looking to Maera, she gave a bright smile before chanting with the crowd.
Stella looked to Charis, giving a final smile “Thank you!” Hearing Phoenix’s request, she repainted *All good to far; however, I have a feeling that the Brotherhood is going to be stirring up some drama as usual...*

Charis smiled back to Stella as she looked around then heard The Phoenix's voice speaking to her in her mind. 'Things look alright so far I think but I am doing my best to look around and at multiple spots. A gentleman just walked by and looks like he might be drunk... I think he's with another group. sometimes I am bad with names to this day.'
Charis then started to take a stroll around the area looking at people, things, and other objects. She wanted to be helpful this time...

Vance noticed Phoenix above as Maera walked past him, looking for an up-close moment with the camera. Then there was Matthew who was calling himself trying to imitate him, wreaking of booze. Vance was so glad he never got into drinking. He didn't care for things that impaired his mind.
{Things are steady so far.} his thoughts responded to Phoenix. {Though it's hard to breathe with this drunk guy next to me...seriously, someone put this guy in the detox before he does something stupid...}

Jeff has wanted to attend the march but had been tapped by some nervous parents with a so good child who also had organized her friends for the cause of mutant rights. He wasn’t against the cause at all. He was for everyone having the same rights across the board. His medic was a damn fine person, gifted, and could lay hands on and heal almost anything. It was excellent and he loved them. He didn’t want to call them but they were on the rotation. Hope had stopped by as he was hearing and was surprised by the amount people Jeff had over. He smiled and they talked. He wanted her to stay longer but she had to go to the march. He was going to work the detail as most of his people were good and this little person was paying the bills today. He nearly had that stoner come but he wasn’t available to take some wealthy persons money. It was a shame. The kid did good work. He would assign two people to the young woman. Whisper on Overwatch, Dee as observation and he would be lazy and hang out with Hope. The only wild factor was the Brotherhood. He had a magazine of ceramic rounds in case their leader showed up. That guy would find out that he wasn’t welcome. They all loaded up for the drive to DC.
~*~
Rhona was excited to be with the others. Christmas had been a new experience where she had learned that giving gifts was a great experience and that she would be able to do it next year when she had found a job. That to excited her about getting a job after coming back from Muir Island. She was not so sure she needed the shoes but they insisted and she wore them. As they stood there she nudged Hope.
“I’m hungry. When are we going to eat?”
That was another thing she had learned about how it all worked. You had to bring snacks along or you would be hungry. She had brought a backpack of snacks but it was nearly gone. She considered snacks a tease and she wanted real food. The upside to all this was she may be able to see Todd again before she left. Her height gave her an advantage over most people. That’s when she noticed the woman floating overhead. What was her name again? She had developed some bad habits as well. She tended to forget names easily. The names she didn’t forget was one of her friend Hope, the blue furry guy was Dr. McCoy who was very nice and did her medical checkups and gave her some pain pills for the pain she suffered on occasion, and a woman name Katherine. Why she remembered that name she didn’t know as with a lot of memories, which were a mystery. She liked the man named Charles. He said her mind was damaged and that Muir Island would help her.
“Hope...I am going to go to that coffee shop and get several dozen donuts. You want something?”
~*~
Jeff and the crew had made their way to the march. The teen and her friend talked the whole way. He was thankful he had already made his mistakes and was now working them off. He didn’t care that this was supposed to be a milk run and it was low risk. He never treated it like that. They hit the streets keeping the kids together and he broke off with Dee and Whisper. Their medic stayed in the van.
“Dee hit up that building three blocks out and get a good view of the march. Whisper I want to know where all the Secret Service snipers are at, that way if the shooting starts we can avoid them.”
Once his orders were given he had everyone check in. All check ins done he say the floating red head. He didn’t know red heads could fly as he worked his way through the crowd and spotted Hope after a fashion. He came up to stand beside her.
“So do I need a decoder ring or a sign? I think maybe swearing allegiance to all the gifted is to much, right?”
He smiled at her and waited for her to respond.

Hope jumped as upon hearing Jeff’s rustic voice behind her. Twirling around, she smiled brightly “Maybe so.” She winked happily before throwing her arms around the man for a squeeze. She had seen him earlier in the made; made him breakfast and had coffee before moving on out to the march. Before that, however, it had been weeks. She missed him so much that it hurt. He was one of the few men she trusted, and she felt her feelings for him grow exponentially over the last few weeks.
Looking over to Charis, she smiled and waved at her “Heyo! Come over and stand with us!” She asked sweetly before pulling back from Jeff “I’m so glad you came..” she whispered before looking to her sister “Looks like most of us are here. You and Lawrence hanging out here?” She asked softly.
Stella tried to remain focused, but with her ex standing nearly next to her, it was hard to keep an eye on anyone looking to start trouble. It was with a heavy sigh that she turned to him “Are you going to ignore me the entire march, or can we work together like civilized people? Regardless of what happened in the past, I do respect you.” She growled through her teeth. Despite how strong she acted, the woman hated when she was ignored. It didn’t help that he looked SO good under the cloudy sky. Ugh.
