History (Birthplace, Family, etc):
Viola Elizabeth Avery was a woman born into a family that was British Royalty before the unification of the world. She knew every advantage that a girl then woman could know and then after all that was given to her she knew that there was more and knew it growing up which caused her to strive for more.
As a young girl she would run the expanse of her family estates in the country of England and enjoy the very joy of being free and running. Her parents did not know what to do with such a free spirited child. So instead of trying to contain her they let her have run of the grounds until it came time to put her in school. Once her formal education began she was overloaded and wished for the days in the country but since it was a formal boarding school she had to attend until holidays.
Her classmates while they didn’t like her spirit were quick friends and she had few problems. She earned top marks in her classes and progressed quickly in her extracurricular activities. She was extremely talented in fencing and riding.
Her primary school years flew by and soon she was in secondary school. It was a whole different dichotomy from her primary school years and an adjustment. She met the mean girls who thought they were going bully and while she thought it quaint she did not bow down to them or tolerate their attitudes.
She progressed very well and was still her in extracurricular activities and this did nothing more than earn her the praise of her teachers and those girls who thought they would get under skin by just being bitches to her. It all came to a head one day after her fencing practice. They cornered and Viola whom had enough of them to begin with fought back. She placed her foil on the ground and struck the girl, which caused her to have to fight the other two. It was three on one and while she swift and agile it still was a losing fight. Even though she had beat them all she was in trouble for the fight and her parents were contacted.
The fallout from the fight was severe, as her parents knew that the summer was coming and denied her holiday with her grandparents. This angered Viola and while there was still the matter of her expulsion from the school, which her parents were contesting, they were very mad at her. So instead of fighting with her parents, after her initial argument she just let it drop.
The summer came and went and then she returned to her school. The girls who had started the fight with her stayed clear and she had a reputation, inflated by rumor and hearsay, as a violent girl. So they called her Violence behind her back. This really didn’t bother Viola as she kept earning high marks and excelling at her activities. Her school years seemed to fly by as she approached the end of her years her parents wanted her to choose a college. Her dad hoped she would choose Cambridge but she had other plans.
She had met a boy over one of the summers who was an enlisted Royal Marine and that idea excited her. So she was interested in this life. She had looked into it and as royalty she would be given a commission. So she said she would think on college while she did more research into the Royal Marines. After a year off from any schooling she finally made her decision. Her parents were appalled but her Uncle who had been one was the one making the arrangements to get her ready for the POC (Potential Officer Course). So she took the next year to train and ready herself. After that year of intensive training she applied and after the course, which lasted three days, Viola had to go to an Officer Candidate’s board with the Admiralty Review Board.
After the review board and waiting some time Viola went home to await the decision and she continued her training as if she was going to be accepted. While she scored very high and impressed the board they were reluctant, mainly due to her father’s words, to select the young woman. Viola found out and penned them a letter asking them to consider her on her own merits and how she performed instead of the words of her father.
The board answered back with an acceptance letter two months later and her uncle was more than happy to take her off to her basic training. The training was grueling and every time she felt like she couldn’t continue she remembered her father’s words to her. He wasn’t happy but he gave her words of encouragement.
The first weeks of Viola’s training are spent learning basic skills that will be used later. This includes much time spent on the parade ground and on the rifle ranges. The long history of the Royal Marines is also highlighted through a visit to the Royal Marines Museum in South Sea, Hampshire. Her physical training at this stage emphasized all-round physical strength, endurance and flexibility in order to develop the muscles necessary to carry the heavy equipment a marine will use in an operational unit. Key milestones include a gym pass out at week 9 (not carried out with fighting order), a battle swimming test, and learning to do a "regain" (i.e. climb back onto a rope suspended over a water tank). Most of these tests are completed wearing fighting order of 32 lb (14.5 kg) of Personal Load Carrying Equipment. Individual fieldcraft skills are also taught at this basic stage.
So with those words spurring her on she completed all the courses with her company either in or under the times required. She never gave up once and this impressed her instructors in the process.
Then her commando training came and as she completed that she was more than happy to see her parents upon that graduation.
She was a Royal Marine and her parents were very proud of their little girl. She had been changed and after a short break she was back off for more training. They gave her the choice of being a pilot but she declined. She requested assignment to the 40 Commando and was assigned as she requested and made her way there. It wasn’t until the conflicts in other countries came up that she was using her skills and leading her people effectively.
She wasn’t totally oblivious to the world at large. It was an ugly place full of hate of the strange and unknown. She served and saw many things that made her realize why she served. It was why she would give up.
She met a young man named Oliver Armstrong. He was charming, intelligent, and had a way about him that drew her in. They dated and she found herself falling in love. She had a training assignment for a few weeks and informed him of her return date. The assignment ended earlier than expected and when she returned she decided to surprise him by just showing up. She was the surprised one and his infidelity was known by her. She was woman of poise and said she no longer wished to see him and left. She was hurt and left for her barracks. She didn’t speak to him again. He seemed like such a good man. She couldn’t tolerate his cheating though and that was what ended her relationship. She was 21 at the time and the world would change more over the next 10 years.
The next ten year’s brought forth many changes in world governments. Laws to limit those deemed mutants. Racism rearing it’s head in unprecedented ways and places. She found herself deployed to the hotspots that her government deemed necessary and she went. It wasn’t until she had returned that she was going to be staying home for a while. She took that as a good thing and wanted some down time. She took up in a flat in Portsmouth near the base.
