Dee took in a deep breath as there was something about the latest job that didn't sit well with her. The team worked as a well oiled machine in most cases however she felt alone for the first time in ages when she rescued the girl. She handled their attackers single handily with a few cuts and bruises. She delivered a slightly banged up target to the rest of the crew who kept her safe. When she didn't hear anything from grumpy uncle, it worried her to no end. He was usually good about checking in with things like this. What was worse was when she heard a group of people talking about a kidnapping and their boss. She tailed them for a bit before loosing the vehicle in the group of so many others. She swore as it was a string of bad luck.
Her foot steps paused at an intersection as she waited for the light to change. She shook her head as the nagging feeling of being alone pressed on her. She had eventually heard from Jeff who said things were a mess. She helped where she was needed most as she lead people to safety. She watched as Jeff wondered off with his girlfriend. It wasn't that she was jealous of Hope, more like she hardly sees Jeff other than bits here and there, along with various jobs. She didn't push her need for attention. Grumpy Uncle had a right to his private life. Was she a bad person for wanting to feel like they were still a family?
People pushed her as she stood there lost in her thoughts while there was a signal to enter into the crosswalk. Maybe when she was done at her happy place, she would send a message to Jeff in hopes of getting quality time. There was a bounce to her step as a smile crossed her face. Today would be great as it was New Comic book day. She had been itching to get the next issue of her favorite series that had left on a cliff hanger.
There was a bounce to her step as a smile filled her face. She jumped a little to click her heels. She could care less how other people viewed her. They didn't understand the excitement about such an important day. If there was enough room, she would have done a cartwheel. As she opened the door to the shop, she noticed that her tail had started to come loose from its usual hiding spot. She stood in an alleyway as she restuffed her tail back to its proper place. She entered into the shop as she waved to the owner. She headed to the rack with her issue, unknown that her tail was still showing.

The tail of the girl that just went into the comic store was definitely noticed by Vance as he was swept by said tail heading for that same comic shop. He remembered such a tail from the march, though he wondered why he didn't see her at the X-mansion. He followed her in, but at a distance, checking her out as he went to the same rack she did, though he still had to watch out for that floofy tail.

Jeff was loitering for Dee. It was comic book day and he knew where to find Dee. As she entered he had put himself out of sight from the door behind the rack she would visit. This was always a good time to talk to her and he had even brought her a hazelnut coffee. He knew how she liked it. He lifted it down with seven sugars, whipping cream, and caramel. Hell when you took care of a kid you learned their likes.
“Oh hey! This is convenient Dee. I was looking for you to give you this coffee.”
He laughed and let her get the coffee before he continued on.
“You get your deposit?”

Dee's fingers flipped the comic books until she found the one that she was looking for. Her focus had been on finding the newest edition. Her fingers stopped as she grabbed the comic. A smile lit up her face as she pulled it free from the rack. Her feet were in position to twirl when the familiar voice said something about coffee and money. She pressed the book to her chest as her eyes grew wide as the smell of hazelnut filled her nose. It felt strange cause she was just thinking about Grumpy Uncle.
Her eyes looked over to the guy next to her. She cocked her head slightly as he was new. She usually knew most of the regulars as they tend to all come on the same day. She would say something in a moment. She was always up for making a new friend.
She turned around as her tail came fully free of it's hiding spot, knocking the entire rack to the ground, accidently knocked into Vance. As the noise of what happened reached her ears as her face turned bright red.
Her face fell as the comic book in her hand fell to her side. She looked between Jeff, Vance, and the mess she made. "Um, Hi Jeff! I'm surprised that you came. Hold the coffee for a moment looks like my tail strikes again." She gave a nervous laugh as she turned her attention to Vance. "Sorry if I hit you. It has a mind of it's own at times."
There was a part of her that has happy her tail decided to pop out in the middle of a comic book store. She was able to laugh off her mutation by saying it was apart of her costume, instead of natural. She placed her comic book on the ground next to her as she started to clean up the mess that she made.

As Vance was checking the girl out, the other guy who was called Jeff was bringing her something. In the midst of it all, the tail became a force of chaos and mayhem, knocking over the nearby rack and flying into him like a fuzzy pillow. It was the cutest slap he had ever felt. He even clutched it for a moment before it slipped from his hand, catching a slight scent from it, and there was something...alluring from it. It was then that he was brought back to reality by the girl apologizing, making Vance look to her in slight amazement before he finally spoke to her.
"Don't worry about it," Vance said. "I was actually going to tell you about it before everything happened, and even then I really didn't know how." He then helped her out by picking up the rack and then the comics that had fallen from it.
"I remember seeing you at the march," he said quietly to her. "I figured you were trying to get a topside view of the thing and didn't think much of it, other than it was cool that you were doing parkour. If I wasn't doing work among the marchers, I would've shown you some of my moves, too. Also, I like the fact that you're interested in comics as I am. It makes me think that I can find some relatable people in this world. I'm Vance. What's your name?"

Dee's focus was on the mayhem as she didn't notice Vance's fingers running through her tail. She felt heat on her cheeks as her eyes flickered between him and the mess she had made. She took in a deep breath as she placed her usual smile on her face.
Her head tilted to the side as Vance talked a little bit about the march. Her eyes grew a little wider as he noticed she was jumping between the different buildings. She gripped a few comics to her chest before she handed them over. He caught her off guard and what was more, she wasn't sure how to respond. Her eyes glanced at Grumpy Uncle as she formed a type of reply.
"I was busy working as well so I probably missed seeing you. I had one target to keep my eye on. The parkour was easy as the buildings were close together. I'm naturally good at climbing. It might be fun to climb a tree or something." Her smile grew wider as he mentioned he enjoyed comic books as well. "I'm Doreen, though my friends call me Dee. So what is your favorite series to read?"
She handed him various books as she cleaned up the mess she had made. She took in a deep breath as she bit back a couple of her usual puns until a little later. A new friend was always nice to have. She hoped that she had made one now. She stood up once the rack was restocked. She grabbed her book that she had wanted.

Jeff gave her an odd look about the surprised he came but stopped. She usually didn’t see him very much because he was alway scouting jobs so he could keep the cash flow. It wasn’t that he needed it but he was running several different crews. He was a bit busier than normal with feeding his buddy Reggie jobs. He owed Reggie wanted him to be able to get steady work since he had acquired a skilled asset. Reggie said he was skilled and so far job completion said so. They were off to El Salvador to complete some introductory work. If they could do it quietly he had some Eastern European work coming soon.
“Awwwwww Dee….you’ve made a friend. This is truly touching, just kidding. I came because you never answered my text about the deposit and bonus. Plus I’m here to get some Batman comics I have a lead on from the golden age. It’s supposedly volume four which is one of the few I don’t have at the moment.”
He extended the coffee cup once again for her and smiled. He didn’t want to intrude into Dee having relationships beyond her work. Everyone deserved down time from the field.
“You we’re at the March? I didn’t notice as it seemed to descend into a shit storm of explosives, smoke and violence. You with the school that trains the kids to use their gifts?”

"Nice to meet you, Dee," Vance nodded as he smiled, putting the comic back on the racks and pointing at some. "I'm not that picky with comics. To me, each one is like reading into another world, another universe, like looking into the perspective of the creator and their idea of good vs evil, light vs dark, what would go on in a fight scene, what worlds & dimensions would look like, what love & romance...and even sex would look like. I also like seeing the different character designs, especially the ladies, and seeing what skills, abilities, and powers they would have and how they would use them. So yeah, it would be the superhero stuff, the medieval stuff, the magical girls, the manga...oh, and Sonic...also have you seen Bone? It really surprised me with being so well made."
He then stopped himself as he realized what he was doing. "Um...yeah, I guess I had a geek moment there..." he said. "So what does it for you with comics?"
He then responded to the guy with Dee earlier. "Yep," he said. "It's a shame that some people don't like peace & tolerance that they would need to go that far, but it's nothing new for me."

Dee nodded as Vance talked about what brought him into the comic book world. It would not be the first time that she heard the various guys talk about the female form in comic books. It was one of the few times she got annoyed, usually rolling her eyes as she 'accidently' bumped them in to racks or something. It gave her satisfaction as the topic changed to them being annoyed. She found that Vance glossed over the topic which could be overlooked and forgotten as they were getting to know one another. Plus he helped her clean up the mess from her tail, it gave him a couple of good points.
It was nice to have someone else ramble on just as much as she did. A smile grew even more as she thought about his reasoning. It was close to why she read comics. "It is nice being taken on a journey with friends. I love it as I often feel like I am right beside them. I mean the stories, powers, and artwork are nice. It comes from not really having too many friends around."
Her attention went back to Jeff as she took the coffee. Her eyes closed as she took in a deep breath of the hazelnut goodness. It was the perfect blend as she took a large sip. The milky liquid traveled down as it warmed her belly. Her eyes fluttered as she took another sip as a happy sound left her throat. The sugar and caffeine mixed into her belly as the hairs on the back of her neck prickled a little more.
"This is perfect, Jeff! Walnut you know how I like my coffee." Her head titled as she pulled out her phone. She thought that she had answered his question about the money. She chewed on her bottom lip as she realized that he was right. "I guess I missed answering it. I thought I did. And yes, I got all the money. Sorry that I forgot to let you know like normal. I didn't need the bonus as I was doing my job."
Her heels started to bounce as the combination gave her a bit of extra energy boost. "Well you get your Batman Comic. I got the next issue of The Wishing Wells! I finally get to see what happens to the gang!! It has felt like forever with the last cliff hanger!" Her attention went back to Vance, "What are you getting? I can point you to were it might be as I am a regular here."

Jeff nodded and smiled at Dee as she thanked him for the coffee. Her missing checking in after the cool g do own period was not out of the question. He should have texted again. This was more fun though being out of the house.
“I’ll let it slide this time as you’re the last to check in.”
He shook his head at her comment. They had exceeded the expectations of the person who hired them and she gave bonuses. This based on her daughters account about how she was out of the area with minutes and unharmed.
“I know you feel what your compensated is more than enough but when extra is offered you take part of it as a way of thanking them for considering you again. It shows you’re appreciative of their offer of generosity as well. Plus aren’t you and the daughter hanging out later this week in Iceland?”
The kid had answered him he could understand what was said but achieving that wasn’t impossible but what had to happen to make that happen would take more than a school of gifted folks.
“Peace and tolerance are an admirable goal but let’s clue everyone else in first. That way we can ensure they caught the message before they have to be dealt with. A lot of people will come around leaving the few behind. Keep pushing and it’ll happen.”
That would be a day Jeff would love to see, until he kept up his business.
“Batman yes. The person who said they would be coming for this small auction has not shown. You two fancy a comic book auction?”

"YES! I'm so glad you understand how I feel and see this!" Vance exclaimed. "To me, comics and stories aren't just things to kill time...it's like looking upon a an adventure and being a part of it. It inspires and pushes me to keep putting up with the crap of the world every day."
As he finished putting the rest of the knocked-over comics away, he turns to Jeff as he mentioned a comic book auction while answering Dee on what he was looking for. "Well, I hadn't even planned on coming in before I recognized you so I'm looking around a bit first," he said. "And what about an auction?"

Dee took another sip of the nutty goodness. A sheepish grin grew brighter as Jeff found out at the trip she was going to be taking. She and the girl bonded while she brought them to the safe zone. She hadn't said anything to Jeff as he knew she often made a friend where every she went. Plus with a bit of the savings and the girl paying for most of the trip, she didn't think a bonus was necessary. She wasn't going to argue with him about it.
"You know me, grumpy uncle. Friends were every I go. It keeps my life interesting and me out of you hair."
She shrugged her shoulders as he talked about money. She was never one to understand why it was so important to so many people. She got by just fine with only spending what she needs. She usually spent most of her extra earnings on comic books anyway.
"Walnut you know it that we are of similar mind!" She stopped herself from spinning around again. The comics were all placed back from her first mess. "If there is something you are looking for particularly, I can help you find it. I may spend more time here than I care to admit."
She titled her head at the mention of an auction. She smiled at the thought of spending time with her only family. She bounced on her tip toes as she nodded her head vigorously. "Of course!! When have I ever turned down spending time with you? It will be lots of fun or at least I think so. I am always up for something new and different. Do you want to join us, Vance?"

Vance smirked as Dee gushed over the coffee Jeff had brought her, and a thought occured. "Hey Dee, I have a question..." he began. "How do you feel about nut butter?"
"Well, now that you mention it," Vance began about looking for comics. "I really want to find some Sonic, and Sailor Moon while I'm at it. Though about this auction...it'll be my first one, and I know barely anything on how to run it. What exactly is being auctioned?"

Jeff laughed about Dee’s outlook on life. Yes it kept it interesting and your movements very public. That’s why he showed up at odd times.
“And all that training has been for naught. Where have I failed you Dee?”
He chuckled and looked at Vance. Well the guy liked variety and who didn’t every now and again.
“Mainly you’ll be observing while I spend my money on the comic I wish to obtain. Rare and hard to obtain comics one I’ve heard rumors of being here. If it is I will obtain it. You’re free to come along as Dee did just invite you.”

Dee gave Jeff a sheepish shrug of her shoulders as he commented about his teaching. She took another sip as her mind turned over the past years she had lived with Jeff. He took her in when she had nowhere else to go and gave her a purpose in life. She kept the lessons that her parents taught her close to her heart. She believed that if they were still around that they would be proud of her. Each night, she would talk to a picture of them about her day. It was the one thing she did to stay close to them. She knew it was silly, yet it brought her a sense of peace.
Her tail dropped slightly at the thought of parents. She hoped that they were proud of who she had become. It was a moment as she focused on the here and now. Her tail went back to its usual bounce as today would be full of adventure and a new friend, hopefully. She took another sip to push those dark thoughts away.
“Uncle Jeff, you know the old saying. You can take the squirrel out of the tree but you can’t take the tree out of the squirrel.” She smiled brightly at him as she knew her parents would be proud of the way in which he raised her.
As Vance asked about nut butter, her attention went straight to him as she tilted her head. It felt like a silly question to her as she enjoys a wide variety of different nut products. She often ate nuts at all hours of the day. “Well nuts are my thing so yes! I haven’t found a not product I don’t like. Do you have a favorite?”
Her smile was wide as her stomach growled just a little at the thought of food. She smiled as she licked her lips. “Grumpy Uncle, can we get something to eat after the auction? I could go for a pile of peanuts right about now.”
She giggled a little as she nodded to Vance. He had interesting taste in comics, time would tell if they were similar. Her eyes darted over the store as she thought for a brief moment of which sections. “Manga are on the back wall so the new Sailor Moon would be over there. Sonic would be close by as well. Hey, did you see the live action Sonic movie?”
