A gasp left Angie's throat as she sat straight up in her bed. Her heart was pounding in her chest as a hand came to rest on top of it. She closed her eyes as she slowed her heavy breathing. The nightmares plagued her nightly even after a week of being free and getting sleeping medications. The hope for a dreamless sleep was distant at this point in time.
As her heartbeat and breathing went back to normal, she ran a hand through her blonde hair. Her eyes glanced at the crack in the curtains. She saw bits of starlight as the predawn light peeked over the horizon. A sigh left her lips as her eyes glanced at the clock which read it was just shy of 5am. She scrubbed her face with the heel of her hands. Her lack of sleep was getting rather old as it had been happening since her capture.
A shudder ran down spine as thoughts about her captivity pushed towards the front of her mind. She closed her eyes as she forced those memories back under the surface. She used an old technique as she used her senses to focus on the here and now. She looked around the room as she named five different things she saw, heard, smelled, and felt. She wasn't ready yet to talk about her experience in that horrible woman's mansion.
Another sigh left her lips as her feet touched the plush carpet. While she was exhausted, sleep was something that wouldn't come no matter what hour it was. She slowly walked to the bathroom attached to her room as she kept her mind focused on the feel of the carpet. It was all she could do to be mindful in the moment. Dark thoughts crept into the forefront of her mind as she turned on the water. Her eyes closed as she walked herself through the steps that were needed. The darkness was not going to win this time as it always was a constant battle. She often didn't let people see how much of an effect that it had on her.
The hot water ran over her as she stepped in the shower. She closed her eyes as she rolled her neck a little. It was then that the memories of the past weeks flooded her mind. She remembered visiting the grave of her father when she was grabbed. She woke up in a dark room, tied to a chair. She could hear breathing close by as she called out who was there. A weak young voice answered her back. She learned that it was a young woman who had been there for some time. They swapped stories of their capture. Angie learned that the young woman could see parts of the future. She figured out why the bitch grabbed Corinna because of her mutant powers. They were each taken out of the room at random times. Angie was forced to heal the woman as her power kept the woman alive. It was twice daily sessions. At first, Angie refused however the threats against the girl caused her to change her mind quickly. She didn't know how much time had passed. They were fed meals and allowed to use the bathroom at certain intervals. She got to know the girl as she feared no one had noticed that she had been missing. She tired to escape once which ended in both of them being beaten into submission and inches of her life.
When all hope of rescue had died as time marched on. She felt that she would eventually die tied to the chair. It was until she heard sounds of fighting outside of their room. The animal growl caused her to pause when she heard metal slice through the door. Light flooded the room when Logan and a couple of others had come for them. He released her and Corinna as she rubbed her wrists. She insisted that he carry the other girl as she would be okay. In true fashion, one of the others got Corinna and he carried her outside of the mansion and back home. She was given a clean bill of health after a few days. What made her smile was the fact that Logan had never left her side after finding her.
The warmth turned cool as she was pushed out of the memories. She gave into the darkness as it was quiet were she was. She took in a deep breath as she swallowed hard. She pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind as she hurried to finish her shower. She felt slightly more awake as she stepped out and got dressed. She looked as dawn was approaching quickly. She dressed casually as she headed downstairs to the kitchen. It was too early for any sort of activity other than reading the newspaper and having some coffee.
She padded quietly down the stairs as she did just that. She quietly turned on the coffee maker as she grabbed the paper from the front door. She walked softly as she opened up the news and fixed her coffee just the way she liked it. She settled in as she took a sip, waking up even more. It was the distraction that her minded needed to stop the darkness from flooding again.
