An exasperated groan left the dark ruby lips as perfectly manicured nails tapped the black walnut table. Midnight blue eyes scanned the sheets of paper before Selene. Her carefully paid plans were all crumbling around her. It would seem as if her rivals were taking advantage of her attention being split between so many different chess games. She grew complacent when so many different plans had been going well.
The start of her troubles came when she kidnapped a few members of Excalibur. Two of them were a peace offering for Emma Frost. It was her way of getting the woman to lower her guard for just a moment. She was able to understand Frost’s temporary end goal. Her prized pet confirmed what was said, even allowed for the misdirection to be revealed. She fed off the woman’s healing ability which had made her much stronger than before. Tristan had proved useful as he played goffer with driving high ranking people to meet her. She helped him find what he had been looking for, a powerful artifact. Everything was in place for her to take over until those dominos fell down, one by one.
Those high ranking people backed out on a few deals as what she proposed was too risky. They turned their backs, only to side with one of her rivals. She moved pieces around so she could topple their empires along with her rivals. The artifact was stolen while she was making a copy of its powers. She suspected that it was her current bed partner. To top off her string of bad luck, those that she had captured were rescued. She had been beaten by that hairy man as he took her prized women away from her. She had been left broken and vengeful.
The paper in her hand was laid on top of the large stack. She stood up as her torso leaned over to study a map. Strands of her raven fell onto the map she was studying of the city. The moves she was currently plotting were careful as she had contingency plans for each of them. She refused to be left in this position of a destroyed kingdom or have it happen again.
A dark fingernail traced paths between several markers as she smiled. A throaty chuckle left her lips as her enemies didn’t realize what was coming. She would have her secretary set up a few more meetings to meet with the seedier people. Their motivations were simple which she enjoyed. It would also ensure that no one would get wind of what she was up to.
The long drawn out beep of her buzzer pulled her attention back to the here and now. She sat on her seat as she pushed a button. “What is it?”
A crackly male voice answered back. “Ember is here to see you, Madam.”
A toothy smile crossed her features, “Show her in.” She flipped a switch which allowed her papers and map to slide under the section of the table, hidden from view. This was Frost’s spy she was talking with. She didn’t want any information leaked to that woman. She sat back in her chair as her fingers laced together. A neutral expression crossed her face as she waited.
