Caldwell couldn’t argue with what Ryuusei said about drone strikes. He had seen enough news to know that it happened but not as often as the news liked to portray. It was a hard balance from his understanding of how combat situations evolved from first contact to extended engagements. It also lent to intelligence when a drone strike was authorized and how current that information was upon decisions made to make the strike.
“Ryuusei you aren’t wrong, seeing those incidents in the news does color our opinion of how the military that we pay taxes for is doing their job.”
He took a moment and answered the rest of the Ryuusei’s answer.
“Saddam Hussein gassed Iraqi Kurds in 1988, they were mostly women and children. So if we’re looking at the collateral damage of either action then if we’re looking at it from a control perspective then a drone strike is more surgical versus using gas. This was during closing days of Iran-Iraq war.”
He wondered if Corrina thought she had nothing add or any pertinent questions to ask. He would have to inquire with the headmaster about her background. He did wonder which part of warfare Vance was looking at and whether it was more modern or the area which was the focus of today’s lecture.
“Well considering this was not warfare with heavy electronics or modern weapons systems this would be a combination of both toughness and intelligent execution of strategy. In the case of this action it came down to toughness and willingness to commit to an action. Modern warfare has these lessons built on the blood of those who we learned the lessons from.”
He decided to involve the whole class with his next question.
“Out of all that we have discussed class, what could have been done different to minimize casualties and still rout the German offensive.”
He had the advance learning classroom and called up the battlefield and positions of the two forces and enemy forces on the touch screens which were mounted on the opposites walls.
“Ryuusei and Corrina you go to that screen,” he motioned to his left, “and Charis and Vance you to the other one. The purpose of this is for you to move the Allied Forces and with the program dictating actions of the German forces. Let’s see how each of your suppositions and movements either minimizes casualties or destroys your forces.”
